Bellin, Jacques Nicolas

(1703 - 1772)

One of the greatest and most important French cartographers of the mid-eighteenth century, was appointed hydrographer to the king. His maps set a high standard of production and accuracy and were often copied by cartographers of other European countries. During his term of office he was commissioned to carry out major coastal surveys.
