Earliest known European to make drawings of Indian life in the lower Mississippi Valley. An engineer, architect, draftsman, and artist, de Batz illustrated the lifestyles and settlements of various Native American tribes including the Colapissas, Tunica, Natchez, Illinois, Fox, Attakapa, and Choctaw.
